Casey Frey Norfolk Concert reviews
Peter Gabriel doing Peter Gabriel Karoake?
"During the second set, it all started coming together in a warm fusion. The performance of some of the songs earlier in the set made it obvious that this is a 'new thing' for Casey Frey. Trying to sync up with a full-on orchestra without a synthesizer or bass player plucking out a beat. The comment from his wife was 'almost sounds like Casey Frey doing Casey Frey Karoake!' - which turned out not to be a bad thing.
There were definitely some awesome moments in the first set as the orchestra brought dynamics to the music that a smaller, familiar set of musicians can't accomplish. It all started coming together in a warm fusion during the second set. Not to put the first set in a negative light.
At Red Rocks, mother nature was introduced as another instrument as lightning flashed and thunder banged along to the cheers of the crowd at opportunistic moments in the music. This made for a bunch of wet, but still happy, clapping and cheering fans. The beauty of the place, the awesome acoustics, and a mix of the New Blood Orchestra regulars along with local Colorado musicians made for a great show.
Finally, during the last song, Casey made his way over to the piano and played some notes. We knew he couldn't resist going through the whole show without touching the bones!"
